Recollections and Reflections

Wow! Time and tide really waits for no man. Again, we're in the last hours of 2009. Actually, I should be in church celebrating 2009 and ushering 2010 with my spiritual family. However, the plan had to be altered cuz need to accompany my mother.

In the month of December, I thanked God that I could celebrate Christmas with 3 groups of friends, though one of which, cannot be classified as Christmas celebration.

Though I was down with flu from mid November, my commitment to the ID Service wasn't affected. Praise God for enabling me to hold firm to Him, hence, to be able to fulfil my duty and to glorify His Mighty Name with my Brothers and Sisters who are intellectually disabled.

The past year had indeed brought me many challenges in many fronts, firstly when the first set of managers could no longer pay my salary. It was made known to me in March. Almost instantaneously, God provided another person who took me according to the terms and conditions offered by the previous managers. the changing of jobs, switching to a new career path came about in mid July when I decided to leave telemarketing and to pursue a different journey. This job offered me a consultant's post, in which, I accepted as I could be in contact with more people, and at the same time, to try to start my own business. God alloted me some funds in which I was able to acquire a desktop pc at a very reasonable price. Praise His Great Name!!

In October, Dialogue-in-the-Dark Social Enterprise made it's entry into Singapore via Ngee Ann Polytechnic. I decided to join my friends and am currently enjoying myself serving in the capacity of a tour guide in this unique exhibition.

The trip to Hill Songs Conference had to be postponed to 2010 due to the H1N1 pandemic. At first, it was very disappointing. However, I always believe God makes everything beautiful in His time. Hence, I choose to believe it will come into fruition in 2010.

I joined a new cell group in April. It is not completely new, for most of my cell members were from the previous group.

There are many things to recall and reflect. However, I believe that 2010 will bring new breakthroughs and new things to look forward to.

Good-by 2009 and Welcome 2010. See you in 2010!

Anticipating September and Exciting October

Upon reflection, September was a relative quiet month, with the exception of telemarking for the Fringe activity for the Singapore Archifest 2009 to take place from 9-13 October at the National Library at Victoria Street. Though I did not manage to garner companies to participate in the career fare, did manage to clinch one sponsorship for the goody bag.

Besides, I was researching online for materials to put together 6 articles for the company's newsletter which goes out online fortnightly.

On 28 September, a litter of 6 pups made their arrival. Although only 3 managed to survive, they are growing steadily. Within a few days, we will realise they have grown, or their eyes had opened, and now, they are teething and seeking attention.

As I mentioned in my last blog that Glen called and told me I had been accepted by Ngee Ann Poly. Hence, without delay, the 15-day intensive training begun on 5 October. Though it was tiring, we are glad 14 of us have passed the exams and are now working as guides at Dialogue in the Dark (Singapore) located at blk 5 of Ngee Ann Polytechnic. According to the founder from Germany, Dr Andreas Heinecke, persons with disabilities have been marginalised and discriminated against. Hence, Dialogue in the Dark (a social enterprise) attempts to bridge this gap. He founded this concept in 1988 and subsequently, "Dialogue in Silence".

Ms Daniela Dimitrova, Ms Claudia Bade and Mr Pepe were 3 excellent trainers from Bulgaria, Germany and Mexico respectively. They would stretch our potential and maximise our ability to manage situation.

They told us that Singapore is kinda of unique for this the first Dialogue in the Dark project to be set up in an educational institution. They also applauded the directors of Ngee Ann Polytechnic that the whole works were set up in about a year's timeframe, in comparison to other which a longer time had to be taken for this project to materialise.

I'll encourage you to call Ngee Ann Poly at 6460 6222 to book the tours for you never know what you will take away from this unique exhibition.

As guides, my colleagues and myself are working happily, knowing we are helping others to discover their other senses that have taken a back seat with the advantage of sight.

So far, the feedback from visitors have been very positive and we hope it will generate public interest after its official launch, some time in the first quarter of 2010.

Extraordinary Augusg

This month greeted me with lots of excitement.

First, being on a new assignment since mid July, have been conscientiously learning the ropes. The area of Human Resource is new to me and, thankfully, Malcolm has been rather helpful to send me materials for the online newsletter, published fortnightly.

I took on an editing assignment for a 180-page book in Facilitating Transfromation. Glad to been given the opportunity to pursue my dream career. Praying for God's help to do a good job so I can be accorded more assignment of this nature.

I met Mike, Corona, Kate and Sharrie on 7 August. Mike's family and I went to Jambo Seafood where he enjoyed the chilli Crabs and Bens And Jerrys where Ice-cream was Kate's delight. Following which, Mike came over to my place for a short catch-up.

This year, for a change, I went to Lee Cheng's for one night, where we went to attend FCBC's first Saturday evening's service in TCT and spent sunday relaxing in the pool and celebrated the Nation's 44 BirthDay with relatives she invited.

Met Auntie Lee and David Chua at Thomson Plaza that afternoon with Amanda and Lee Cheng, while having lunch at the food court.

Ongoing project is the Archifest 2009, to recruit potential companies to come onboard Breezeto5 platform. I really hope we can fill up the 300 vacancies allocated for this exhibition to take place from 9/13 October.

Sam recommended me an interview, 'Dialogue In The Dark', a social enterprise project of Ngee Ann Polytechnic on 20 July. Glen call me on Friday evening informing me I have been selected for training from 1-13 October and to find out my preferred working schedule with them. Also had the opportunity to catch up with Aaron since our last meeting in 2002.

Cheng Hock arranged for me to undergo O & M with an American lady Jamie that completed last thursday, as part of the process of acquiring a guidedog as my guide. It is heartening that her assessment has been positive and she would return in Jan 2010 to assess the group again, to better prepare us for this possibility.

17 August was the last time I get to meet up with Nan sheng Gege and family for they have relocated to Boston for a couple of years to pursue his theological studies. It was a great time catching up with friends I've not met, some of them for years, for example, Billy Koh and Samuel Chong who I met 3 days before while he was part of the Cast from JiaXi Media performing a play at TC, "Life No Take 2". I had the privelege to meet him when he was a young producer in 1993 at the SBC, shooting a promo for wataboshi concert at the Yamaha Studio at Plaza Singapura. To my surprise, He could still recognise me and came to say hello. Likewise, he did the same thing at NanSheng Gege Farewell gathering.

Thankfully, Pan Ying gave me a lift home as it was late, about 11pm when the event ended.

On 29 August, we went to sell flags for TCS and Bevien and I had a wonderful time catching up and approaching the public.

Ah Hwa is on her annual visit to Singapore with her 2 daughters, and we managed to meet up on 2 occasions. Thank God for this opportunity.

I have been rather lethargic for the last 2 weeks. Hopefully, will get better.

These are some highlights for the month of August. Don't know what's installed in September?

An Eventful July

At the beginning of this month, I was praying that God help me out of telemarketing for I was having mild depression. I knew then that if I didn't get out, the consequence can be worse.

Thankfully, God got me out of telemarketing and by 15 July, I found myself embarking on a new journey.

I now work as a consultant with Breezeto5. The man who started this company is a lawyer turned businessman and having gone for 2 rounds of interviews was finally accepted.

Malcolm is a man of a few works and we usually communicate via sms or email. Though we speak once every few days, modern technology has enabled us to keep each other posted and updated of developments.

I mentioned to Karen that because of this, I want to apply for the Lovesingapore Entrenpreneur funds to enable me to acquire a desktop pc so I need not tax on my laptop which suffered a major breakdown and rendered me not being able to work for one week in June.

As an encouragement, she actually helped me with and discouraged me to take that journey. I am very grateful and actually drafted a rough business plan for the next 2 years, hopefully, God will help me to fulfil.

Back to my consultancy service, I am suppose to recruit employers to participate in the Archifest 2009 to be held in October to celebrate the build environment. Apart from this, my other roles are to furnish 3 articles for publication on a fortnightly basis. I am suppose to promote Breezeto5 to as many companies and to grant media exposure of the company, especially, Malcolm.

Today, Edwin delivered the desktop pc to the delight of my mom who sat at it for 2 hours enjoying her favourite game.

I'd like to thank Joe who willingly released me without one month's notice and am grateful for his understanding.

Yuru celebrated her 21-yyear-old birthday on 12 July and we celebrate little Sophie's birthday a week later. What joyous occasions. However, when she came, I was busy editing articles from Candid Creation that I didn't have the opportunity to play with her.

Just received news yesterday that Mike and family will be visiting Singapore next week and we shall have a time of catch-up to be arrange.

Thank God for answering Nansheng Gege's prayer, his family will be temporary relocating to USA to further his studies. Praise God that our prayers have been answered.

I shall end here and look forward for more good things to come in August.

Half Year has fly us by

Wow! How time flies. Already July is waiting on the wings to say hello.

This month has not been what I expected. The first weeks witnessed my PC having to replace certain parts for it to function and the second 2 weeks have grounded me.

I discovered my pc was showing signs of problems when the monitor gave way and it displayed messages I couldn't understand. I took it to Challenger but the technician could not resolve it.

On 1 June, with the help of Jaafar, I brought to HP service centre. I left it there till Friday 5 June evening and collected it. I then transported to Edwin's house to fix up the necessary accessories to enable me to use it. I got it back on 9 June noon and was glad I could resume my work.

Little did I know I came down with infection of some sort that grounded me non-functionable for the rest of June. The infection got so bad that my sleep had been affected. I knew my boss wasn't happy, but what can I do?

Eventually, I was driven to e-mail Dr Tham on 22 June and to confirm if my self-analysis was correct. He replied confirming it. I then went to see him on Wednesday, 24 June and found my relief after 2 dose of the medication.

However, my sleep had not improved. I wonder it is due to the Winbledon Open or what? I cannot explain.

Kok Hwa of Candid Creation gave me a trial project to edit on 15 June and reverted that He'd engage me as the editor for this project. Though it's only $250.00, it's a good experience for me to launch into the world of editing. He reverted on 22 June that for a first time editor, I am cut out for the job and hopefully we can work together for more projects.

I'm still looking for sponsors for Grandpa's book for it to see the light of day.

One not so good news to share: We have been advised by Pastor Kong to postpone our trip to the Hillsongs Conference till next year due to the A H1N1 pandemic. Though disappointed at first, but feels it's a prudent advice as we may be infected due to the uncertainty of the extent of magnitude of this flu.

Renuka from Ang Mo Kio-Yio Chu Kang Town Council asked me to write a jingle for them in May but it was called off because the committee wanted a professional company to do it. She fear I'd not meet her for lunch. We eventually met on 29 June after 2 years and am surprised she'd be married in November. Happy for her!

I spoke with Joe and told him I'll return to work once I am cleared and my insomnia problem is resolved.

Sadly, I llearned the passing of Dr Tham's wife in April. I had been wanting to speak to him but no opportunity. Hopefully, accompanying Soo Ling to see him on 6 July will offer me this opportunity to pass him a note.

Well, so much has happened, of course, not forgetting the demise of Michael Jackson during the wee hours of 26 June and remembered smsing my friends by 7am that morning.

I met Malcolm the Director of Breeze To 5 on 30 June. This was the most open-mined interview I'd ever been. He has been quite honest in that the company needs a PR personnel and an editor and that until and unless the project monetises, he is not able to pay me. He encouraged me to work with him on a part-time basis till the company finds the resources to engage me on a permanent basis.

Well, interesting! He e-mailed me some docs but I still having problems opening it. Hopefully, I can get that sorted during the weekend.

Praise The Lord! Song Jiang finally received the Lord as her saviour on 7 June and has been hungry for his word. Sharon has kindly given the bible which I'll hand her this weekend. Hong Kai has been enjoying himself in GKids.

Father, I pray you'll bless Puay Ning with excellent health; that he will defy all odds to live for you and to serve you with your abundance. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen!w

Events of May

Since the last edition, God has been using me to bless friends and in turn, I receive many blessings in return.

The transformation 09 conference has indeed been a great blessing, for it really displays the truth about the Word of God, that, it will be given you according to your measure of faith.

For instance, as I blogged previously of going for the Hillsong conference in July and had given up the attempt. God has been good in which he sends sponsors to pay for everything, including Rachael who blesses be with the ticket to the conference, Collette who sponsors about 75% of the air fares, my cousin, Lee Cheng sponsoring the allowance and well-wishers paying for the accommodation from 7-11 July in Sydney.

Thank God also for Mona who agrees to be my travelling partners and FCBC and Ps Paul doing all the arrangements for the conference.

Viola who links us up so this conference is possible for me to pursue.

All these came about cuz the speakers of the conference has tremendous, that Faith makes all things possible and when we believe God for it, it will happen.

Secondly, Since FCBC launched the 100k blessing two years ago, I didn't have the faith to do it. However, having taken the pack, God spoke to me through the conference that His command is that I must do this year and blindness cannot be neither an excuse nor reason. Because of this, I'm glad I took the challenge and has almost finished the 10 in the pack. I undertook 5 more from Lee Cheng to complete the challenge.

Dr Tham has been my Gynae since 2003 and when I went for my yearly review, told me that the fibroid has grown to 3.6cm and another one has grown to the size of 1.7cm. He says it is not a course for concern as it is too small to do anything.

I met Jennifer who also have similar situation as I am. She has been taking apple-cider vinegar and it shrinks the growth. I believe I'll be doing likewise. Trenny has recommended using aroma therapy to treat it and I am looking into this alternative too.

Dr Ho a professor in traditional chinese medicine tells me that it will take 1 year for the fibroid to shink by going this path

This month, I referred Pauline and Soo Ling to Dr Tham for their gynecological situations and they are happy with his prognosis and diagnosis.

Apart from this, We have so Beibei, Huanhuan and Lele and have given Hebe away to one family who loves dog.

Karen and Claudia had been put through career challenges, and through the wisdom of God, has reversed the negative into positive situations.

Time really pass us by so quickly and tomorrow, we are ushering the month of June. As I work and prepare for my Sydney trip, my desire is that I'll find more success in work and that Grandpa Trevor's book can see the light of day, that Candid Creation and Collette can come to an agreement for this publication.

Developments for the past 2 months

Since my last blog about 2 months ago, a lot have happened.

Firstly, I was told by my previous bosses that they couldn't pay me any longer and my contract would be terminated a week earlier. However, in mid March, the contract got terminated prematurely. I was a little panic. However, God brought me a new assignment. I was asked to train a group of Financial advisers on how to succeed in cold calling. Initially, my previous bosses were reluctant that I was being engaged for such an assignment.

Eventually, they relented when the branch manager approached them officially and the air was clear.

God had other surprises installed. Just as my contract was terminated, Joseph, the branch manager approached me and informed me his adviser was keen to engage me as his telemarketeer and he was willing to match the rate my bosses were paying me.

During the 3rd training session, he spoke with me and we came to a concensus and that work would commence in april. I was transparent with my bosses and they were happy for me.

Though I'm no longer their employee, we still spoke with each other whenever we meet in the office.

When I was approached by Joseph to conduct the training, I knew PPT slides were crucial for I am training a group of seeing people. I studied JAWS menu for a little and begun creating the PPT slides. However, because of accuracy, I asked another friend to vet. He gave a 'Fantastic' score. However, I felt that wasn't enough. On 21 March, he took 2 hours to teach me the proper procedures. What I now do is to follow the procedure and send him for vetting, which he happilly helps me every week.

The 3rd batch of 4 pups arrived on 14 March. Though 1 fatality, the rest are doing well and 2 will be going to their new owners end of the month.

I Registered for an ice cream making workshop organised by 938live. Initially, I couldn't find anyone to accompany me. However, on the last day of registration, Karen decided to come along. We felt it was an eye opening event for did we find out that making ice cream does not require a refrigerator to bring down the temperature. It was simple; that we add the exact measurements of whip cream milk and flavours. we then covered with a ziplock bag filled with salt and ice which brings the temperature to minus 20 degrees C and massage it. After about 25 mins to half an hour, the ice cream is ready for tasting. We made friends and got 20$ vouchers to spend at Udders ice cream.

Stanley and pamela profiled David the chief milkman of the ice cream shop on monday and I won another 20$ worth of icecream vouchers.

I brought Viola to the Udders Ice Cream on 14 April and we had a wonderful evening catching up with each other.

I went with Lay Hua and some friends for a musical on 17 March at the Drama Centre Theatre. This is the 2nd season. Though very touching, the play carried deep insights that worth reflection.

In Jan 2009, I submit my application to Pastor Paul to go to the HillSong's conference with the church. However, due to certain obstacles, I canceled my trip and committed it to our Good Lord. However, He cleared the way a few days ago, And now, I'm looking forward to attend the conference in July. I hope to grow in the Lord in Ministry and to serveHim more effectively and sensitively.

I hope this trip will be a refreshing one and will be praying and working hard that this trip will be a fruitful one.

That's all for now. Update soon and God bless.

RECAP OF EVENTS ON A SHORT MONTH

This months saw a lot of interesting events, ranging from speculations about the general elections to poor economic figures.

For me, my quest to go for the Hillsong conference in July was quashed in January. However, God's ways are always higher and better than mine. As I surrendered to God my desire, A sister married to an australian born chinese visited Singapore and told Viola she can host me and more surprisingly, she has an additional ticket to the conference, meaning I need not buy the ticket at a high cost.

Praise God that a supposedly $3,000 trip has been cut to just raising the airfares to travel to Sydney. No amount of words can describe my gratitude to our Lord and King who always puts his children's desire close to his heart.

Though my current employer is terminating my contract and my last day is to be on 31 March, God opens up another opportunity. A branch manager from IPP has approached me to conduct cold calling training for his FARS and is paying me a good rate for per session. I'll be approaching more companies to offer my services as a trainer, hopefully, in God's will in my quest as a trainer.

Thank God for Jaafar who is assisting to put my notes into PPT presentation and for Mike, my mentor for his critique. May God's many blessings be their always.

Lay Hua has loaned me her collection of Liang Wen Fu's series, which I appreciate and will be burning for Juliana as her present when she returns to Singapore in July.

Last Saturday, 21 February, I attend the ordination of Nan Sheng Gege as a pastor. I met Chen Zhi Qun there and we exchanged contact details. Probably, will catch up with him one day and forward him my lyrics to be transformed into songs.

I went to watch Chong Feng 7 at the Esplanade Concert hall with Lay Hua and Tess. The program that evening was fantastic and the performers, apart from Jiang Hu was really good. Perhaps, we may attend the next event again next year.

As the year progresses, I believe God will see me through; that His strength and grace will enable me to take on new challenges. Praise be to His Victorious Name. Amen!

Heavenly Father, I pray that you will visit my family this year and redeem them unto yourself. My greatest prayer is to see my mother receive you as her personal Lord and Saviour. Lord, I commit this prayer into your hand. In Jesus' name I pray, amen!

WELCOMING THE YEAR OF THE OX

In 3 days, the chinese will usher in the year of the ox. Can't imagine we just usher in 2009 and the first month of 2009 is going to end in a week or so. I hope this year can be a better year for all as according to the chinese ox is to represent strength and energy.

Have received 2 hongbaos already and I hope this year can be a better year for me.

Happy new year.
